ENG 3610--Creative Writing Workshop: Fiction
This course serves as an introduction to the short story, literary journal, and writing workshop. After reading Janet Burroway and Elizabeth and Ned Stuckey-French's Writing Fiction: A Guide to Narrative Craft, students write two of their own stories and workshop them.

ENG 3100J--Writing About Environmental Sustainability
​Subtitled "From Overpopulation to Extinction," sections of this junior-level composition course focus on Joel K. Bourne, Jr.'s The End of Plenty: The Race to Feed a Crowded World, among other books, to examine the problems of global overpopulation and overconsumption through a post-apocalyptic lens.

ENG 3080J--Writing and Rhetoric II
This junior-level composition course, subtitled "Sport, Secession, Sexism," uses books by Steve Almond, Chuck Thompson, and Roxane Gay to discuss the themes above.

ENG 2010--Introduction to Prose Fiction and Nonfiction
In this course, students become acquainted with the origins and several examples of fiction and nonfiction. Genres examined include flash fiction, short story, novel, essay, essay collection, and memoir, in addition to relevant vocabulary terms. The main texts are, in chronological order, Richard Wright's Native Son, David Mitchell's Cloud Atlas, Roxane Gay's Bad Feminist, and Sarah Einstein's Mot: A Memoir.

ENG 1510--Writing and Rhetoric I
Utilizing Gerald Graff and Cathy Birkenstein's "They Say/I Say": The Moves That Matter in Academic Writing and both volumes of Writing Spaces: Readings on Writing, students learn to identify rhetorical moves and how they, too, may use such moves to influence and persuade others.
